FinalTorrent Tutorial #8 – Advanced Configuration

Searching for a BitTorrent client that's not very difficult to use or understand? Well, you've arrived at the right place, because FinalTorrent is a really user-friendly free file sharing program, this amazing piece of freeware is designed to offer hassle-free file downloads regardless if they are videos, audio files or pieces of software. Its automatic web-browser integration is extremely helpful, it allows you to begin your download just by a single click on any .torrent link you may find. This tutorial is about FinalTorrent's advanced configurations.

Take into consideration that having this great free BitTorrent client installed in your computer is necessary if you want to correctly follow this tutorial. For those who don't have it, we've placed a “Download” button on top of this page you can click to get the InstallIQ installer that will guide you through the setup process.

Before we plunge into the tutorial itself, let me make a short warning: All these settings and configurations are perfect in its factory settings, so, unless you know what you are doing, I suggest not to touch them. In the hypothetical case that you have an issue I highly recommend that you first check the help before touching any of these.
Warnings done, let's see what FinalTorrent has to offer under its hood. To access the configurations dialog you should go “View” → “Preferences”.

The “Preferences” interactive dialog will appear. By default it will show the “File locations” tab which we've already reviewed in our tutorial about downloaded files location, so, select the “Connection” tab:

Here you can change the port number (in case you are having trouble with another application using the same port for file download/upload), you also have a button to “Select Random Port” and a check-box in case you want to “Randomize port on each start” in a way to increase your download/upload security level, anyhow I would recommend that you always have a good and updated antivirus installed and running to cover this point. Check our antivirus section.

The next tab to review is the “Bittorrent” one.

Here you can adjust: “Global maximum number of connections” this is to set the total of download/upload connections you allow FinalTorrent to have, “Maximum number of connected peers per torrent” here you can set the top number for other users (peers) connected at the same time, and “Number of upload slots per torrent” where you can increase or decrease such number in order to raise or diminish the upload rate.
Under “Queue Settings” you can set “Maximum number of active torrents” and all exceeding torrents (upload or download) will remain in the queue until a new position is cleared, and “Maximum number of active downloads” which is to keep your download ratio efficient, if you allow too many downloads at the same time it will make particular downloads to run slower, always depending on the Internet connection speed you have.

Final Words

As you can see FinalTorrent advanced configuration is not so complicated, anyway, as I mentioned before I recommend not to touch them unless really necessary and you know what you are doing. In case you mess it up and FinalTorrent stops working you can always come back to default.
