LibreOffice Base Tutorial #3 – Creating Records
Base is LibreOffice's database management application. This great piece of freeware helps you to design, create and manage databases and its forms and reports, with full MS Access compatibility and the possibility to use it as a front-end for other database systems such as OBDC, MySQL and PostgreSQL. In today's tutorial I'm going to tell you how to create records by entering your data in the tables we've learned how to create in our previous tutorial.

Before we start with the tutorial itself let me remember that you need LibreOffice to follow this tutorial properly, so, get your 100% free fully featured copy by just clicking on the “Download” button above and the InstallIQTM manager will take care of the rest.

To start creating records in your database you have to double click on the “Albums” table.

The table will open so that you can start creating records.

The cursor will be placed in the first field under the ID column so type “1” for the first album.

As you can see a new row is added automatically when you enter the first data. Press Tab or click on the field next to the one you've just filled and enter the Artist Name:

Press Tab to jump to the next field, enter the Album Name and so on until you complete all fields with your data and it should look like this:

Press Tab one more time and the cursor will go to the first field in the next row.

Notice that Base will automatically save your record once you completed the last field and passed to the next record.
Final Words
In our upcoming tutorial you'll learn how to edit record data and column format. Creating new records to store your data is, as you can see, easy and straightforward. Get LibreOffice now by clicking on the link below and start creating databases to keep record of whatever you need from your CD collection to more complex or professional purposes.
