  • LibreOffice Impress Tutorial #2 – Inserting Images

LibreOffice comes with an amazing presentation program named Impress, this free and open-source application is really helpful when it comes to creating and editing presentations and slide-shows offering really professional results. The presentations can be saved in several formats including MS compatible standards .ppt and .pps, and its native .odp among other, but what is really important, presentations can also be saved in the PDF format for easy sharing without having to install any plugin or supplementary software. Today I'm going to tell you how to insert images in your presentation.

To be able to properly follow this tutorial you need LibreOffice ready to run in your PC, those of you who doesn't can click on the “Download” button on top of this page, Once you get the 100% free full version installer of this office suite the InstallIQTM manager will guide you through the setup.

To open Impress, launch LibreOffice and from its main window options select “Presentation”:

Assuming you have already created a new presentation, let's create a blank slide where you are going to inert the image which you have stored in your folders (i.e. your desktop or My Pictures folder, etc).

you can insert the image in several ways but let's start from the most common which is going to Insert → Picture → From File... in the menu bar.

The Insert Picture dialog will open here you can browser your folders to find the image file you are going to insert. Once you find it select it and click Open. The image will appear centered in the blank slide.

As you can see the image has grip points which you can use to stretch and resize the image to your likes.

You can also move the image by clicking and dragging it.

Image insertion can also be performed by dragging the image file from a Window Explorer window. Just browse to the file and drag it to the point of insertion.

With this method the image is inserted in the place you drop it instead of centered.

    Pretty simple, isn't it?

    Final Words

Now you can start inserting images to make you presentations more professional, interesting or just for fun. LibreOffice Impress is an extraordinary presentation tool you can use to make astonishing presentations for any purpose, your job, your study or just for friends and family.
