VLC Tutorial #8 – How to Convert WMA Audio Files to MP4
It's possible that by now you have heard about VLC or read about it somewhere on the web, well, the fact is that VLC Media Player is gaining a lot popularity and let me tell you that it is not just by chance, this versatile free media player offers so many amazing features like its extensive codec library that allows you to play almost any file type you can think of and its streaming and conversion capabilities, speaking of which, today I'm going to tell you how to convert .WMA audio files to .MP4 which, for example is really useful when you want to transfer those files to your portable device (i.e. iPod/iPhone).
Have you got VLC Media Player installed in your computer? Well, if you don't have it, you can click on the big blue “Download Button” on top of this page and follow the steps of the InstallIQ™ installation manager.
So sometimes it happens that we have some tracks that we love in our PC but we cannot transfer it to our mobile device because the file format is not supported by it. Thanks to VLC Media Player now we can enjoy of all our music and carry it with us wherever we go in our mobile device. So let's get our noses to the grindstone!!
With the VLC Media Player installed and running you have to go to Media > Advanced Open File... and you'll get the “Open Media” window.
In the File Selection section click on the Add button and browse to the file you want to convert. Select it and click on Open, it will now appear on the Open Media window. At this point you can select more files if you want to do a batch mode conversion by clicking on the Add... button again.
Once you are done with the selection, go to the bottom of the window and unfold the menu of the “Play” button and select Convert. This will open the Convert window.
Here you are going to select the location of the output file by clicking on the Browse button. In the Save file... window you have to browse to the destination folder an write the name and extension (container) of the output file. In this case I entered Test.mp4.
Next select the Settings which for this case will be Audio – AAC (MP4). You can also select the Display the output checkbox tho listen to the song while it is being converted.
And finally click on the Start button. After a few minutes, the output audio file will appear in the destination folder and will be ready for transfer.
