VLC Media Player Tutorial #13 - How to Keep VLC Updated
If you are searching for a media player to run on your Windows-based machine that is versatile, agile and allows you to play all the audio/video file formats you may stumble upon but most importantly does not clog your system when doing so and of course it must be free, then you are in the right place. VLC Media Player is all that and more because it also offers advanced features like video streaming and much more. In today's tutorial I'm going to give you some tips on how to keep this free media player always good as new and fully functional by promptly updating it.
I assume that if you are reading this is because you already have VLC installed and running ion your PC, however, if you don't now is the perfect moment to get and install your free copy of this free media player by clicking on the “Download” button above. Once you have it in you folders the InstallIQTM installation manager will take care of the rest.
OK, to keep VLC updated you have two ways, the first is automatic and it depends on you having your computer connected to the Internet. You'll get update notifications whenever there is a new release or bugfix release. It will look like this:
Click Yes and a dialog will popup where you can select the location where the installer will be located.
Once the download is finished you'll be offered to close VLC and run the installation.
You'll probably get a notice asking if you want to remove the old version, click Yes to continue.
And the uninstallation process will begin. Click Next to continue, this takes only a couple of steps and not more than 10 seconds.
Until the installation dialog for the new version appears.
Again click Next a couple of times and in a few seconds you'll see the setup completion window. Click Finish.
And if you checked the Run check-box VLC will launch. Now fresh and updated.
The second path for updating this amazing free media player is manual, go to Help → Check for Updates...
The same dialog will appear if you do not have the latest version and if like in my case you do have it, you'll see something like this:
Of course you are totally free to decide not to make this updates, but in that case you'll be missing a lot of improvements that come with them like improved security, stability, bug fixes if any and so forth. So, download VLC now Free by clicking the “Download Now” link below and start playing your multimedia in the best possible way.
